Purpose of this blog

Personal missionary work as a coordinator for the college students who graduated from Institution Univers in Ouanaminthe, HAITI.

I act as a liaison for those currently in college and their sponsors, until the students have all graduated, whether in USA, Haiti or the Dominican Republic.
As well, I encourage those who have graduated from college but have not yet returned to Haiti, to return to fulfill the purpose of their education, for themselves, their families, their country and most importantly, for God.

An immediate need to fulfill please!

Emmanuel Joseph, who is one of the Univers returned grads, who I work with in the Graduate Placement Department at Institution Univers is in need of a RELIABLE laptop. His laptop currently works when it wants to.
A Gently-used laptop computer, in excellent-working condition would be wonderful, or a new one is even better, of course!
If you are able to help us out please let me know as soon as possible. I can take it with me in January, when I return to Univers.
Thank you very much for considering to help us in this important way.

Emmanuel Joseph

Update on the Haitian Presidential Election

The State Department has revised the Travel Alert last updated on June 10, 2016, concerning the presidential election period in light of the announcement by Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council of a new election calendar, revised due to Hurricane Matthew, with a first round of elections now scheduled for November 20, 2016, and a second round scheduled for January 29, 2017. This new electoral calendar aims to have an elected president installed by the end of February 2017. This Travel Alert expires on March 31, 2017

Haiti's unfinished presidential electoral process has made the political and security environment more uncertain, with possible demonstrations causing disruption to traffic and access to key locations in Port-au-Prince.

Tensions remain high and we urge U.S. citizens to exercise caution and remain abreast of the security situation as the electoral process progresses. In addition to the dates mentioned above, possible points when demonstrations could occur include February 7, 2017, the date many hold that the Haitian constitution requires a president to be inaugurated, and the dates on which provisional and definitive results of the above-mentioned election rounds are announced.

During elections, restrictions on traffic circulation, either imposed by the authorities or caused by political rallies may be expected. As a general matter of emergency preparedness, U.S. citizens should maintain adequate supplies of food, water, essential medicines, and other supplies that will allow them to shelter in place for at least 72 hours.

U.S. citizens should monitor local media for any changes in the election schedule. The U.S. Embassy may update this Travel Alert as the schedule or circumstances change.

In the midst of chaos, God IS ON His Throne and Rules over all nations

Augustine once said that the person who sings prays twice. Why not take a moment to sing about God's reign?

PARTNERS – To My dear prayer and financial supporters:
So that I may work with the Univers students in Haiti, I must raise all my own funding. I appreciate your consideration and commitment to partner with me in this work. You are an important part of changing students’ lives, families’ lives, a country's life! Thank you; words cannot express how thankful I am for you to be in my life. To God be the Glory!

I am very grateful to “Community of the Holy Spirit Church” in Willoughby, Ohio (www.chswilloughby.com) to “adopt me” by wanting to partner with me for my funding to go through them, hence providing you with a tax deduction. “Each of us will be called upon to scale the cliffs of life. Some may be intimidating and appear insurmountable, yet our call to Christ demands that we try, no matter how difficult the climb. It does not matter in what career or context you find yourself, or whether or not you are certain about what you will find at the top of the cliff… every follower of Christ has the prime directive of representing Him on this earth. It is easy to forget that we were all born in the middle of a war. This spiritual battle between good and evil rages all around us all the time. God has a mission for us to fulfill. We aren’t here by accident; neither are we here simply to enjoy the good things life has to offer. We are here because God put us here, and He has a sovereign purpose for us.”

As Hurricane Matthew approaches

Please pray for Haiti, D.R., Cuba, Jamaica, Turks & Caicos, and The Bahamas as Hurricane Matthew approaches. As of the current weather report, the waves are expected to hit the southern shores of Haiti with 30 foot waves and 36 inches of rain. They are not prepared structurally or infra-structurally for this kind of destruction, as most of your know.
I am now in Florida with my mom, arriving before Matthew was even on the radar or named, to celebrate our birthdays together and then my planned travel to Ohio, Colorado and wherever God calls me to find sponsors for some of our Haitian college-eligible students. Now I am unable to go back to Haiti, even though that's where I want to be right now.
Please keep our Univers family in your prayers, as they minister to the families of Ouanaminthe in the coming days.
Praying with you,
Marylee

Important News to Yahoo.com and Yahoo.fr and all other Yahoo country email users

Yahoo just announced that a hacker accessed data on 500 million Yahoo user accounts in 2014. Read the announcement from Yahoo here. The data includes account holder names, email addresses, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, telephone numbers and, in some cases, security questions and answers.
Based on the data exposed, we suggest the following for Yahoo account holders:
  • Know that you may be prompted by Yahoo to change your password when you try to login to your account. We recommend that you change your Yahoo account password even if Yahoo doesn't prompt you to do so.
  • Choose new security questions and answers for your Yahoo account and any other accounts on which you used the same or similar questions/answers.
  • Consider using Yahoo Account Key instead of a password. Click Set Up Yahoo Account Key to Stop Using Passwords for details.
  • If your Yahoo account included a backup email address and you used the same password on it as you did your Yahoo account, then change the password for the backup email account as well and use a different password.
  • Be aware that scammers can use this type of data to "phish" for more data. See the Investigator Tips from this month's IDShield member newsletter for more on these types of scams: Investigator Tips: Beware of "-ishing".
  • Click here to see the text of the email that Yahoo is sending to users.
  • Be wary if you get odd email messages from a friend with a Yahoo email account as it might be that their account was taken over by a scammer.
  • Be wary of email even if it looks legitimate. Scammers can copy logos and mask the sender's address to appear to be from a trusted person or business. Your spam filter may not catch every fraudulent email sent to your address.
  • Think about what you are asked for before providing your sensitive personal information when responding to an email or clicking on a link in an email.
  • Yahoo is not going to call you. Understand that caller id can be masked to appear to be a call from someone or some business familiar to you.

Jamescy is heading to college!

I just received word from New Life Technical School of Cap-Haitian,
Haiti (http://www.newlifetechnicalschool.com/) that Jamescy, my Univers "God-son", has been accepted and will depart Ouanaminthe for Cap-Haitien next week! Jamescy is a 2016 graduate from Institution Univers. He will study Agriculture Technology, to graduate in two years as a Agriculture Technician.
If you want to donate towards Jamescy's education, please let me know!
Please be praying for Jamescy as this will be only his third time going to Cap-Haitien in his life!

A New School Year - Ready to Go!

I've arrived back in Haiti and Ready to start the new school year!
Excited for the year to begin!
We have three graduated students from IU who are now Freshmen: Jennie is at Red Rocks Community College (Colorado), Cold Weene is at Rowan University (New Jersey) and Jaccine is at Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky). All praise to our Great God for working out so many details, and sending loving, generous people into our path so these gals can earn a college degree.

I am working with ten students over the next year to get them to college. The two Philo (Grade 13) students who we are raising funding for, to attend college are Rose - Mica (Ohio) and Willens (Kentucky). The other eight have already graduated and we have partial funding so far for all of them.

Florvilson returns to Univers in two weeks with degrees in Finance and Economics. He will be trained to be the Haiti liaison for newly developed "Univers Student Sponsorship Program"! Welcome Home, Flo!

Here's some photos from this summer. Wonderful memories!

The moment Jaccine found out she was going to Lindsey Wilson College:

Back in Haiti!

I'm back in Haiti and busy working on the English Top Scholars Visas, and the two college students Visas who will attend college in the US this Fall. Cold Weene will attend Rowan University in New Jersey and Jennie will attend Red Rocks Community College in Colorado! We are so excited for them. Here's photos of the students receiving the GOOD news!

Jennie:

Cold Weene:

In the meantime, we are very actively trying to get Jaccine placed to attend college in Kentucky. Please read the following, and if you are so led to participate in this MATCHING PROGRAM we have been blessed with, please send your donation to: COCINA, P.O. Box 12695, Columbus, OH  43212 and attach a note to the check: "FOR JACCINE JEADOR - LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP". Thank you!

Lindsey Wilson College Opportunity:

We currently have two Univers graduates studying at Lindsey Wilson College. www.lindsey.edu
Evelyne Cherenfant is a Junior studying Business Administration-Human Resources and Fritz Ludens is a Sophomore studying Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science.
Lindsey Wilson (LWC) offered another FULL TUITION scholarship this past year for a third student and another scholarship again this year for a fourth student.
The first year a student is at LWC, over and above the tuition scholarship,  expenses are approximately $16,000 for room and board, books, fees, living expenses, U.S. Visa expenses, and travel. Year two through four is approximately $13,000 each year.
We have a base donation of $4,000 thus far. We have a generous offer from this donor to match others who donate for the first year with no cap. For example, if someone commits to $1,000, he will match $1,000.

We would like to see Jaccine Jeador be the student to fill this next scholarship opportunity. If you are interested in participating to change this precious young woman and her family's life, and ultimately change her nation through education please contact me immediately. We are under the timeline to raise the remaining funding needed and secure her U.S. Visa.

Here's Jaccine's biography:

I’m JEADOR Jaccine. I come from Haiti; I live in Ouanaminthe. I will be eighteen years old on October 26th, 2014. I’m at Univers’ school in the 13th grade. I have four siblings. I live with my mom. My mom did business, but now she's not doing anything for a living because she was very sick and the doctors had recommended not doing anything such as working. My father is doing a little job; he's working as security in a bank. I love God that's why I really like to go to the church and pray to Him. I like to read; I also like to take a little time to meditate. My favorite subjects are biology and chemistry and I always do my best in those subjects. I really love school because it can make possible all my beautiful plans. I like to lead, to help people and be the best that I can. I can teach them with my advices or other things I have learned.
I would like to study medicine and ultimately become a doctor (Surgeon, Gynecologist). I want to go in college this year in United States to learn new things to take my education back in my country and serve it with all the things that I will learn because my country really need people to do this. Sometimes in my country you cannot learn the profession that you like. The reason why is because sometimes your parents don't have enough possibilities to help you with that. That's why I always think about different choices for my university studies. I also like Nursing in particular and Health care Administration. I am a big dreamer. I already know without school I won't realize my dreams, I always take seriously my school interest and activities. I always want to learn more and more to increase my knowledge because that can help me to achieve my greats goals, which are become a doctor to participate in serving my country or all over in the world and finally for having a good future in my dear Lord Jesus' name.
