Purpose of this blog

Personal missionary work as a coordinator for the college students who graduated from Institution Univers in Ouanaminthe, HAITI.

I act as a liaison for those currently in college and their sponsors, until the students have all graduated, whether in USA, Haiti or the Dominican Republic.
As well, I encourage those who have graduated from college but have not yet returned to Haiti, to return to fulfill the purpose of their education, for themselves, their families, their country and most importantly, for God.

If you are, or will be in Port au Prince next Friday, March 23...

I am excited to inform you about an upcoming fundraiser for HELP in Port-au-Prince, conceived, planned and hosted by our very own alumni.

When the alumni told me they wanted to host a fundraiser I could not have been more pleased by their desire to renew the gift of an education that you have made possible.

To my knowledge it is the first fundraiser in Haiti organized by an organization’s former beneficiaries.  If you will be in Port-au-Prince next Friday I hope you will join me. If not, you can still buy a ticket which will be donated to students who have sold a minimum of two tickets.

Please join me and the young men and women you have supported to sponsor more students for years to come.

Perspective...

Do not try to save the whole world or do anything grandiose. Instead, create a clearing in the dense forest of your life and wait there patiently, until the song that is your life falls into your own cupped hands and you recognize and greet it.

For anyone in the Raleigh, North Carolina area...

...Here's a group for you to connect with!

Email I receontly received:

We remember and honor those who lost their lives, limbs, friends and family in Haiti during the earthquake, eight years ago today.

Thank each of you for work on collaborative projects in Haiti or support those who work there.
I submitted the following to the News and Observer, a newspaper in North Carolina.

I have friends and associates who include a law professor at Duke, a research scientist at NCCU with a grant for his work to cure cancer, and an English professor at UNC.
Associates include doctors and nurses, teachers and students, preachers and priests who heal, educate, and support all of us. We have friends who were orphans with little education who work two or three jobs to provide for an education for their children.  Some are from Haiti who live and work in the United States.
Others are Americans who work in Haiti. Many spent days digging family and friends from rubble in the earthquake, eight years ago today. Some Haitian ancestors fought beside Americans for freedom during the Revolutionary War.
We strengthen our communities. And we are thankful to know and work with one another.

The Haiti Connection meets 7:00 -9:00 PM on the third Thursday of each month
We will meet Thursday January 18, 2018
All who are from Haiti or work in Haiti are welcome. We exchange information on what we do and what we need

Hurricane Irma Impact in Ouanaminthe

Hurricane Irma Impacts Ouanaminthe

Thankfully the majority of Haiti has been spared the worst of Hurricane Irma, unlike many of its island neighbors.

Due to the heavy rains, though, Ouanaminthe has experienced some significant flooding. Matt White, our Director of Development and Sponsorships is in Haiti now and has sent these photos. Please keep the people of Ouanaminthe and the families of Institution Univers in your prayers. There will be many needs as clean-up of homes, businesses, and the community takes place.
Univers Medical Center and Institution Univers are helping their community in many ways. If you would like to help with the Irma aftermath, please consider a gift to COCINA.

Oh PLEASE share this with Everyone you know!

The Univers Story, as told by BittersweetMonthly.com!

Univers/COCINA was selected as the Reader's Choice Feature of the Month on BittersweetMonthly.com. Here's the intro...

The year was 1991, and just months after swearing in its first-ever democratically elected government, Haiti suffered a serious setback. Hopes for a brighter future were quashed by a brutal military coup. Human rights abuses and destitute poverty drove Haitians to risk their lives fleeing the country.
Boats arrived en masse on the coast of Florida (boats may be a generous term – picture shoddy rafts) carrying desperate Haitians who braved the tempestuous waters in hopes of escaping violence, chaos and upheaval in their home country.
But at this very moment in time—one when most Haitians would have given anything for the opportunity to come to the United States, Hugues Bastien sought to return to his homeland.

The school year is in full swing!

Praise be to God! We are so blessed with
a new pastor to spiritually lead the students and staff,
with a full school,
with God's faithfulness to our needs,
with students going on to colleges in Haiti because of the generous sponsors God has led to us,
with returning grads employed at the school!

Thank you, for your love, concern and faithfulness to Institution Univers!
